How Safe is the LASIK Procedure?

Does LASIK Hurt?

Eye drops are used to numb the cornea and patients report little, if any, discomfort both during and after the procedure.

Will I Have 20/20 Vision?

We hope so, but as with any medical procedure, there is no guarantee that you will have perfect vision or that you will not need glasses or contact lenses again. However, almost everyone experiences improved vision, and most see well enough to pass a driver’s test without corrective lenses. Most people will need reading glasses at some point after turning 40, and LASIK cannot prevent the need for reading glasses.

What are the Risks Associated With LASIK?

Like any medical procedure, LASIK eye surgery has some risks. At Associated Eye Care, the combination of our skilled surgeons and the best available technology helps to minimize the risks of the procedure. Your doctor will give you more detailed information regarding risks and complications prior to your LASIK procedure, and all of your questions will be answered.

When Will I Be Able to See After the Procedure?

Results vary from patient to patient. Most patients have functional vision in one to three days, and many return to normal activities the day after the procedure. Full visual results are usually realized within one to four weeks.

Is LASIK Approved by the FDA?

The FDA usually does not approve procedures. It approves medical devices such as the excimer laser used in the procedure. Associated Eye Care uses the FDA-approved, all-laser Allegretto Wavelight system.
