Dr. Ballard joined Associated Eye Care in 1982 after spending five years at UCLA specializing in ophthalmology, with additional training in pediatric ophthalmology and eye muscle disorders. Dr. Ballard received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University and attended medical school at the University of Utah, graduating in 1977. Dr. Ballard is very involved in teaching his sub-specialty to ophthalmic technicians and resident physicians from the University of Minnesota, where he is an adjunct professor of ophthalmology. He speaks fluent Spanish and has been involved in health care projects involving eye care in El Salvador and Albania.
For recreation, Dr. Ballard enjoys astronomy and bicycling. He and his wife have seven children and three grandchildren.
